Baltimore All Ireland Road Trotting Preview

Two years ago road trotting made a welcome return to Baltimore after a break of over thirty years and the local committee are busily preparing themselves for the annual fixture and this year the local committee applied for and were granted the All Ireland Road Trotting Championships.

Tradition in time gone by was that this fixture was always held on Palm Sunday but this year the committee have taken the decision to hold the fixture a week earlier on next Sunday to fit into the road racing calendar with race meetings being held every second Sunday thus the change in date.

Maloney big winner at Durrus Road Trotting

Marie Moloney bagged a brace of winners and also collected Jockey of the Day honors and just for good measure took the Best Turned horse for Stan The Man at the annual Durrus Road Trotting Races which were held on Sunday, the 8th of March 2015, having been previously cancelled on New Years Day.

Unbeaten Mountain Dew Lad scores again at Skibbereen

Mountain Dew Lad made it three wins from three starts and was the second leg of a double for owner/trainer Niall Forbes before a bumper crowd at the annual Skibbereen Road Trotting Memorial Day on Sunday, 25th of January 2015. Mountain Dew Lad a son of Best Sunshine and Fame Again was all the rage in the betting ring in the Grade C and was eased to the front by Deirdre Goggin with three furlongs to pace and went on to win by three lengths. He will now contest the Grade B on his next outing.

Grade A Road Trot to Conway Tiger at Ballygurteen

Conway Tiger with regular jockey Deirdre Goggin in the plate who was second on the opening day in Drimoleague went one better in a keenly contested featured Grade A Trot at the well attended Ballygurteen Road Trotting Races on Sunday the 11th of January 2015.

ITHRF celebrate season with gala awards dinner

The Irish Trotting And Harness Racing Federation held their annual awards night at a pleasant function in Bernies Bar Clonakilty last Saturday night. A sizeable crowd were in attendance for the ceremony with a total of 11 awards presented on the night.

The horse of the year award this season went to SUNNYSIDE KILDARE who is owned by Colomane based Sean Buckley. This son of Bear Dance and Maynooth was a winner of six major races including an elimination heat and final win in the two big memorial handicaps The George Deane and The Paddy Connolly Memorials.

End of season review for Irish Trotting

The curtain came down on another harness racing season in Cork at Clonakilty, where the All Ireland Championships were held at the picturesque Inchadoney Island venue. Rhyds Destiny stamped his class on the final and gave winning connections John Shanahan, Aiden Hayes and John Mycock their first win in the classic since 2002 albeit they are better known for owning classic winners on the winter road racing discipline.

Rhyds Destiny wins All Ireland Final at Clonakilty

Rhyds Destiny joined the ranks of the elite in harness racing in West Cork as he captured the coveted All Ireland Harness Final at Clonakilty on Sunday, 31st of August 2014.

Seven runners lined up for the premier event on the calendar and Rhyds Destiny with Mike Kelleher in the bike set a blistering early pace on this mile and three furlong event. Best of The Fleet went in pursuit of the pace maker along with Ringo Star and Miraculous Return but this was a day that Rhyds Destiny met his "Destiny" and run out an easy eight length winner from Ringo Star who had won the stayers championship at the three day Tregaron festival in Wales last week. The winner is jointly owned by Leap based John Shanahan and Aiden Hayes and John Mycock a Derbyshire dairy farmer in the UK who is a regular visitor to the West Cork area and has in the past been associated with Fidlin another All Ireland winner. Winning driver Mike Kelleher drove two winners on the day having earlier coming off the pace in the final furlong to win on Meadowbranch Kiki who won his maiden at the same fixture last year.
